Rover 214 SEi Project

I bought my 214 SEi project around November last year. I took the plunge having not seen the car other than a few bad photos, and checking the MOT history online. It also had low mileage (49k).

I took a risk, and upon arrival, I was pleased to see the car looking solid, but a little rough around the edges, but with a mint interior.

It became clear that the engine need a bit of work, so I set about saving a few pennies.

I also discovered that the car is a 1996 registration which makes it quite rare - there are just over 200 SEi’s left on the road, most being 1995, and a smaller number 1994. However there are only 5 left registered in 1996 which makes it a very late one. Perhaps one of the last SEi’s?

I now have enough saved to send it to Craig’s (Rover Revivals) where it is heading next week.

Once it’s up and running and taxed and MOT’d, I will work on the cosmetics!

Here’s a couple of pics. I will update the thread in due course.

New reg plates have been ordered as the old ones had faded - the front one had gone yellow, and the rear one brown! I’ll fit them before it goes to Rover Revivals

The mechanics are now completed courtesy of Craig at RoverRevival and the car successfully passed its first MOT in 3 years on Thursday.

A new bonnet has been fitted to replace the one with lacquer peel, and a new uprated battery. New front discs also purchased from John B, but not fitted yet.

It’s now insured and ready to tax and pick up on Sunday. The insurance cost more than my 420 with the same insurer on account of it not being garaged but the 420 is :S .

Jobs to do now are a deep clean, polish, bits and bobs of bodywork, and fit a new SEi badge (for some reason it’s missing or never had one).

I have got the car back from Rover Revival and I am delighted with it.

Engine runs great and it was a very pleasant drive back to Wakefield.

Did the customary wash and polish (2 stage polish) when I got back and it’s come up a treat.

There’s still a couple of bits to do on it all in good time.

Pics here and also on the R8 Enthusiasts Page on Facebook.

NB Craig at Rover Revival highly recommended!
