Tomcat Affair Cars - Where are they now?

The "yellow" Tomcat Affair car was sold at auction last weekend and is now owned by a couple of Tomcat enthusiasts who are, I believe, intending to bring it to shows.

But I read somewhere recently that the current condition and location of the other Tomcat Affair car, the "red" one, are unknown as it was sent abroad shortly after the records had been set at Milbrook and has apparently dropped out of sight.

I'm guessing it was intended to support the launch of the Coupe and would have gone to Europe or Japan to give dealers a preview of what was in the pipeline. But that's pure unadulterated speculation on my part.

Does anyone know what did happen to the other record-setting car or have any info on where it is now?

The whereabouts of the red car are a mystery.

It is believed to have been purchased by Stadco, a pressings supplier to Rover Group, and many other companies. Stadco were owned by Ogihara, a Japanese pressings and press-tool supplier.

Ogihara supplied much of the unique Tomcat tooling and were a sponsor of the Tomcat Affair, with their name appearing on the bootlid.

Ogihara were taken over by a Korean company some time back and they haven't responded to emails about the car.

Did it stay in this country, did it go to Japan, is it safe or scrapped? Unfortunately, we just don't know...

We do know the location of the yellow car though and it's safe :cool

John,

Thank you for your reply. That fills in a lot of detail, and still leaves a very, very tiny shred of hope that the car just might still exist somewhere even if it's in a very, very poor condition.

Is the VIN known at all, always assuming that such an early pre-production car had a VIN.
