hi all, have a problem with my 414 in that the fan doesnt kick in ive tested the fan which runs fine so i changed th thermo plug but it still doesnt kick in end result the water starts to boil but the temp guage reads normal??? had the head gasket done around 6 mnths ago.
any ideas greatly apreciated.

Check the relay for it and also the fuse for it. I had a duff relay in my 214 once. (swap for one of the identical ones that controls the engine managment etc - if the car then refuses to start you've found the fault!)

will that mess with the brain at all on her ill give that a go. cheers mate

gave it a go no joy the fan just wont kick in.got me baffled

What age is it? Early ones are controlled by the thermostatic switch in the radiator. The later ones are controlled by the ECU.

If it is a later one unplugging the ECU coolant temp sensor should turn the fan on. If it doesn't then there is a wiring/fuse/relay problem somewhere. If it does then the coolant temp sensor is probably faulty.

If it is an earlier one, sticking a small piece of wire between the two connectors that plug into the radiator should turn the fan on. If it does then the thermostatic switch is faulty. If it doesn't then there is a wiring/fuse/relay problem somewhere.

its on an r plate. tried the wire bridge on it fan worked fine. i changed the thermo switch and tested all the relays still to no joy.any ideas!!!!!!!!!!

If you unplug the ECU coolant temp sensor does the fan run then?

This is the temp sensor on the engine? Or the one in the radiator (if fitted)
