Head Gasket? I'm not soo sure

Hey All,

We've removed the head from my 214 (1995) and it was obvoius that the cylinder nearest the gearbox had water in it..

There was NO evedence of any kind that the head gasket had failed, It was the "original" design though.

The head looks very good too....

My question here is, we are going to machine the head (for safety) but where might the water have been comming from?

Any advice here would be great. We've stopped for the night but await advice from you guys!!

Cheeers

Skim the head only if it isn't flat. The engineering shop should be able to check this for you

Inlet manifold gaskets are another common leak point which leaks water into the intake, so although you don't get water and oil mixing you get water consumption and steamm in the exhaust.

We think so too..... BUM!

Head is off too.... Guess we'll check to make sure its flat and start the rebuild!
