Help 416 SL1 Auto starting problems

I have a 416 SLi Auto (L Reg) with a starting problem.

Doesn't seem to have a problem when cold but sometimes attempting to restart when hot results in the engine turning over but failing to start. Occasionally the engine fires then stops again.

Trying to start in D4 (locked out on the inhibitor) and then trying to start in neutral appears to also stimulate the fault howver, my wife has noticed the problem in Park.

After a few moments cooling (a minute or 2) the engine starts quite happily.

I can only think the fault must be in the electronic ignition system which on the Honda engine is in the distributor.

Has anybody any experience of this problem and if so what is the solution?

It does sounds like the distributer which unfortunatly is afairly common fauly.

If the problem can be pinpointed to a lack of spark when it happens then that narrows down the problem a little

i had this on mine and this solved it.

under the centre console is a brown coloured relay. locate this and remove the top cover, run a soldering iron over all the solder joints and refit. this solved my problem as this is a fuel cut out relay in the event of an accident and is prone to dry joints.

let me know how you get on
