Hi All

Im finaly going to get my car resprayed and all rusty pannels replaced within the next two months got quotations and its around 3000 quid. im looking at a compleate strip down of the car and an acid dip to get it back to a fresh metal look and all rusty panels replaced ( thanks rimmers for the on sale pannels )

The question i have is Night fire red is avalable in 3 types and nobody can say if my car was Perlresant or metalic or the other. My code is caq and its a 1996. but this still has not helped. :cursing Which would people on hear would say is the better on to go for as i have a choice as its a full strip and spray.

Thanks

not that nightfire isn't a nice colour, was just wondering as your going to so much effort and expense why not choose something a bit special? even if you wanted to stay with mg/rover there was some fantastic colours to choose from.

A paint supplier will be able to tell you which version it is. He should match it agasinst a colour swatch.

i didnt realise there was 3 types of nightfire. some cars look a little dull but others seem to really pop even when dirty, i guess this is the reason why.

Only two variants of NFR were used on the R8, NFR (aka COQ) upto MY94 cars and NFR2 (aka CAQ) after that and both are Pearlescents.

You should only need the paint code, and any paint shop worth their salt will give you the right stuff based on that alone.

Are there different shades though?

I think there are 3 shades of carribean blue for example all have the same colour code though, hence the paint shop need to match it to the colour swatch.

COQ and CAQ are most ceratinly different. You park them side by side and in teh correct light the difference is obvious. The two shades use different primer colours for a start I believe and the finished colour is has a more purple hue to it and the other a more orange hue.

The paint manufacturer swatches will have different 'shades' to allow for paint fade (and I suppose minor variations in mix from the factory) when doing accident repairs, but for a complete respray that shouldn't matter. When I've been to get rattle cans made up for mine they have a swatch with three or four levels of fade on them and they mix up the closest match to my car.

If you google 'rover paint codes' you should be able to find a few websites that will list all the different colours and related codes that Rover produced for their cars. This should distinguish between metallic, pearlescent etc.

Hi people,

Thanks for the replys.

Found out my car has been sprayed before! and that the colour was not an excact match it was done in a spray shop in loughbourgh by the last owner and they matched it best they could but not that good.

i have been thinking after reading that people have said and i like the mg monogram program paints so im thinking of a complete change not sure if i can get them thow.

Anyway its going to have to wait until next year as i have had to spend my money on my mgf as it needed a head gasket and a topend rebuild and new hood and ive purchased a new TT fxtream for her and being an mg it costs a bit (Not doing this myself as its a pain with the rear engine).

Anyway thanks for all the input from everyone i will keep you all posted if it changes but i dont think it will ( The wife will make sure of it )
