Hi

My Rover 216Si 1999 stalls whene I press clutch. I change ICV, clean throttle body, replace sparks and fuel filter, clean MAP sensor tube and test ECU relay which is OK. Can anybody tell me what should I do whit it? It stalls more when is hot outside. And even more when AC is on. Car was on tester but, there are no errors.

on 18sec downshift

on 22sec I press clutch but then I release it so car did not stall

on 26sec I press clutch and car stall

Inlet manifold gasket ok?

A leak here would screw up the idle control.

Maybe you know how test manifold gasket? I think it is a map sensor fault, but i do not know how to test it, because map sensor is in ECU,..

i had a simular problem, and it turned out to be the start of a head gasket failure.

whats your water levels like?

and have you got mayonaise in the filler cap?

The gasket is often noisy, but with the engine at idle if you spray WD40 around the joint if you hear the engine note change then you may well have an issue. The other way is to pull and press the inlet manifold at idle to see if the idle speed changes. If it does then again you have a leak.

There is not mayonaise in the filler cap.

E_T_V I tray to spray with WD40 all joins while engine idleing, but I did not hear any changes.
Tomorrow I will try to press inlet manifold to see if idle changes.

I have one more question

Is ECU in 214Si same as in 216Si? Today I will try to swap ECU.

The ECU is different but may work well enough to prove the fault.. ECU's are matched to the immobiliser so you'd need to swap the pair of them together.

I swap both ECU and immobiliser, but car is still stalling. So probably i will have to replace inlet manifold gasket and head gasket?

I wouldn't go replacing anything major just yet.

Does the car have a stepper motor or an idle control valve?

Both can stick and benefit from cleaning to remove any gunge. The throttle body itself (if it has a stepper motor fitted), has an air bleed passage around the throttle body which commonly gets clogged with crud. If it gets clogged the idle control is poor.

Also try a stepper motor reset

1 Turn igntion on
2 Fully depress and release the throttle pedal 5 times in under 5 seconds.
3 You should hear a quiet chatter from the engine bay
4 Wait till the noise stops (a couple of seconds)
5 Start the engine and wait for the idle speed to stabilise.

Are there any other symptoms? Are all the spark plugs the right colour?
