Getting into gear

:) Hello there,
It has taken me years to join but, finally, I have done it. My car is a Rover 216 Cabriolet in red. I am its second owner and have owned it for 18 years of its 19 year life. The previous owner was the Rover Company itself. It had 9000 on the clock when I got it and has now just ticked over 93000. Over the years it has been a great runner and has not given any major concerns. My wife, who has a Volvo V70 Estate, says i treat it like one of the family. It is garaged every night and does not go out if the weather is inclement. if caught out in bad weather it is dried off and polished before being given a hot Horlicks and a hug (figuratively speaking that is) and tucked up for the night.
During its last MOT my garage owner, who loves it almost as much as I do, pointed out a couple of hidden rust spots on the sills. A complete review of the body work -ie: how many chips, knocks and scratches has it acquired over the years, resulted in a complete respray just before Christmas. I am now looking for Rover and 216 badges for the rear . It did not have them originally but I feel it needs them to give it a deft touch.

Me? - I am retired (retired more years than I care to remember!) and live in North Wales having spent over 40 years working in the south of England. Back to the roots as they say. My other big interest is railway modelling in N Gauge and I have a loft kitted out with a layout under construction.

My good lady and I hope to get out and about with the 216 and to come to meetings and meet some of the people who are obviously more knowledgable than I. See you around.

Now, what's tomorrows weather forecast!

Welcome to the club! Your car sounds very well looked after. You should be able to pick up the Rover script badge on ebay. 216 will be more difficult but they do crop up. It will be "216SLi" or "216GSi" as 216 was never badged on its own but you can cut off the letters you don't need. Your car would only have had the Rover Viking ship badge from new. Some of us like to keep our cars as originally spec'd while others prefer to modify subtly or less subtly! It's what ever floats your boat. Everyone is accepted here!
I have just bought a yellow oil filler cap as mine is black and the early cars should have yellow caps! If you think that is bad don't ask anyone in the club about my obsession with wheel trim alignment!

I look forward to seeing your car.

Jeremy

There's a thread about events which you might find interesting. 'Pride of Longbridge', although not exactly local, is huge and well worth attending. If it doesn't rain :wink3

You can use Photobucket (or similar sites) to post photos, which we'd all like to see.

Looking forward to meeting you during 2016.

Thank you, Montegoman, for your comments on badging the rear end.
Yes, it came with only the ship badge in the boot centre and I thought it might look better with the addition of the Rover name to the bottom left and the 216 to the right. It did, however, have a small transfer which featured a Rover ship badge and the name of the dealer in Southampton, Wadham Kenning. In the respray this was lost. It was so distinctive many people asked if the vehicle was a 'Special" - if only! I am trying to recreate the Wadham Kenning badge but don't want to push my respray man into too hurried a job. Patience, methinks, is the name of the game.

I did think of putting a photo of the shiny new job on the forum but I am not the best in the world with computers and Photoshop frightens me. I'll have to learn.

Hi and welcome.

Sounds a nice car. I'm originally from N Wales myself so I can recommend the scenery!
