Head swaps...

I've been offered a bare VVC cylinder head which I believe has larger valves than a standard 1.4/1.6K. Firstly has anyone run a 1.4/1.6K with one of these heads and secondly what is the best cam to use with it? I'm looking at building a warmed up 1600cc K for my GSi and if the VVC head is a straight swap I will go down this route, as it would be far cheaper than having my existing head modified!

The VVC engine uses larger valves so effectivly it is basically a large valve head, and I think the VVC controls can simply be swapped over for a conventional camshaft/injection system. Head space is apparently limited within the K head and it would be interesting to see if the VVC head would give a 1600 unit a bit more oomph compared to the cost involved in having a standard 1600 K head modified.

I can't comment from personal experience, but yes the VVC head has bigger valves and a lot of people seeking more power do away with the VVC mechs on the 1.8's.

Piper do a conversion kit to take solid cams which can be seen here

Your looking at £95+ for the conversion kit plus cost of cams etc
