If only they knew the time, effort and skill required in this job!.
As has already been said 'you get what you pay for'...
A woman came round the other day and with a 2001 Ford puma in radiant red, rusty rear arches and sills and badly faded paint all over, almost matt pink!,Quoted her £250 to shot blast and fill the rear arches/sills,respray the 1/4 panels and mop the car with G3 then polish it,her reply...'OH MY GOD HOW ON EARTH CAN YOU JUSTIFY £250,IT ONLY NEEDS A LITTLE BIT OF PAINT AND A RUB WITH SOME POLISH' :glare

How much would you charge mate? Im just curious because if you have the equipment and space and can beat the quote ive had ill bring it down to you and get the train back.

Do you really mean fill the sills? :scared
Sounds bad when i read it back myself :o

No its scabby surface rust from people wearing through the paint getting in and out,the seatbelt getting caught etc, obviously if the metal was thin or there were holes i'd plate it :angel

Sorry mate i havn't got the time/patience/enthusiasm to commit myself to a respray at the moment :bored
I only do it part time now and it's gone from being an enjoyable hobby to a pain,to many people wanting favours and 'mates rates'

I wasnt asking for a rate, just a quote, price for the job... but i understand where your coming from :)

Ive had another quote for bodywork, primed and sprayed = £700 to £800.

This doesnt include a base coat or that laccare stuff.

They told me that a red doesnt need a base coat *shruggs*

Straight colours come in either basecoat or top coat, only basecoat requires laquer.
Personally i'd say around £800 labour and £200 paint+consumables is reasonable for a complete respray in the original colour.
:cool

Good luck with the respray, hope it turns out ok. I have just finished my sons 214 sei. It started as a nightfire red with grey bottom half, its a 1994 m plate thats covered 32000 miles. car was one owner and mint condition, no rust no dents. I helped the guy who sprayed the car, He charged me £350 + paint and consumables. But I did a lot of the prep work myself along with fitting side skirts. We also did a boot flush, bad boy bonnet etc and colour matched the the trim such as bump strips, all the black parts on the mirrors and I fitted led repeaters in them. One other job was to weld up the original side repeaters. The thing is regarding price, I have seen just how much work goes into preparing a car first hand, so beware if the price seems to good o be true, it probably is.
My sons 214 is now nightfire red with ford ST gold tint laquer and red hologaphic glitter topped off with several layers of clear laquer and looks great. A good panel beater / sprayer is worth his wieght in gold *laughs*.
