I was outside the auction house in the 75 :clapping
My dad had the car on Mon morning, he was taking my mum to an op at Tameside. No idea why he'd have been in Newton, but I was at home then. Don't know of any other early 416s about our ends though, so was probably mine - if the rear window was full of stickers it certainly was mine.
My mum clocked you near the Revival unit last week, she drives a black and cream Cooper S with dark grey wheels.
redandwhitE wrote: Wed Aug 08, 2018 11:59 pm forgive my ignorance, but why clean out the roof channels?
Because they were somehow full of mud! The plastic trims had seemingly never been off, and the car seemed to have been kept under trees for a lot of its past life. The amount of wet dirt in there was absurd, and it'd only cause rot in the long run.
Mr Teddy Bear wrote: Thu Aug 09, 2018 9:31 am How did you get the rubber strips out of the channels Max?
They aren't rubber, more a hard plastic with a metal rail under them: this rail holds the strip on via plastic clips mounted to the roof channels, so if you can get under either the front or rear windscreen seal, and lever the end of the strip up from there, then you should be able to pull it up.

Hi Vulg :D thanks! The car's really not the same one I bought a mere three months ago. It's a definite keeper.

Hot starting issue hopefully cured: the main relay board has had its solder redone. One or two dry joints.

Time will tell...

The starting issue has improved since fixing the relay, but it still stumbles and coughs a bit when cold starting.

My dad is suspicious the oil lines need a clean out and are struggling to build pressure from cold.

Also, the switch for the courtesy light on the driver's door seems to have failed.

There's always something...

A bit of contact cleaner on the door sw should do the trick, then give it some finger motion. :D

Someone on Autoshite has said they might be selling a 416GTi TC auto with leather delete.

Anyone in the market for a GSi?

Yep, I've been offered it for £350. Scabby front arches and flat paint, but it's a 416GTi auto twincam at the end of the day - and with the blue velour interior too. Everything I'd want in an R8. Full MOT, recent tyres etc as well.
Rare car, the paragon of accuracy that is How Many Left says there are 27 416GTis left, 13 of which are autos.

Can't really say no at that price so interesting times may be afoot.

If it's a 416GTi it should have full leather interior.

I'm aware. It was a delete option though, i.e. you could specify velour instead if leather wasn't to your taste, and frankly I'd rather that. I vastly prefer velour to leather in general, and I'm not too keen on the R8 leather interiors anyway, Prism velour is much nicer to me. More comfortable too.

It is definitely a GTi though, it has the alloys, twin tailpipe, rear electric windows, and most importantly it's a twincam.
