Look in either the Haynes manual or Rimmer Bros' website, aftermarket pads don't come with shims, Rimmers can supply, but beware of the dreaded P&P charges, alternatively ring up Xpart and get a discount if you're a member of the club! even without probably cheaper, you will have to buy another set of pads I expect to get the shims. Pad backing plates may need filing to get a sliding fit, possibly that's how the shims got lost in the first place. Reassemble with copper slip or alternative anti-squeal lube.
Sitting on the downstairs throne yesterday reading a copy of Practical Classics and my eyes alighted on a piece about servicing brakes. They actually advise against using silicone grease on the pins sliders, instead use either Copper Slip or this XP product pushed by Edd China, or an alternative!

Copper grease is appalling advice from them-it goes sticky after a short period, which isn’t exactly ideal on something you want to move freely.
If you buy a calliper repair kit, then a sachet of silicone grease came with it, so it was obviously meant for the pins, I've always used copper slip on the pad backing plates, however I will investigate this red rubber grease that I have to confess I haven't heard of!
Still having same problem with front discs I am going down the route of new or recon callipers now , just tried rimmers they say nla , anyone know where I may get a pair lucas non ABS . Solid discs
Do you mean the calliper or the carrier? The carriers are available, I've noticed that they don't bother stocking callipers either. Repair kits are an alternative or try a engineering company who refurbish them, hopefully that way you get a new piston.
