Look in either the Haynes manual or Rimmer Bros' website, aftermarket pads don't come with shims, Rimmers can supply, but beware of the dreaded P&P charges, alternatively ring up Xpart and get a discount if you're a member of the club!Rover dave wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 7:55 pm All bushes checked all nuts bolts checked for tightness / damage , shims have never been there . Where can I get them ? and will the damage to pads/ discs now be done?![]()

Sitting on the downstairs throne yesterday reading a copy of Practical Classics
and my eyes alighted on a piece about servicing brakes. They actually advise against using silicone grease on the pins sliders, instead use either Copper Slip or this XP product pushed by Edd China, or an alternative!

Re: Front discs
Copper grease is appalling advice from them-it goes sticky after a short period, which isn’t exactly ideal on something you want to move freely.Mr Teddy Bear wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 11:04 am Sitting on the downstairs throne yesterday reading a copy of Practical Classicsand my eyes alighted on a piece about servicing brakes. Re: Front discs
+ 1 for red rubber grease. It does not deform the rubber seals on the sliders/pins.
Use it on all of my cars now instead of copper grease .
Have recently tried silicon grease as an experiment on the sliders/pins. Will see how this works long term.

Re: Front discs
If you buy a calliper repair kit, then a sachet of silicone grease came with it, so it was obviously meant for the pins, I've always used copper slip on the pad backing plates, however I will investigate this red rubber grease that I have to confess I haven't heard of!

Re: Front discs
Do you mean the calliper or the carrier? The carriers are available, I've noticed that they don't bother stocking callipers either. Repair kits are an alternative or try a engineering company who refurbish them, hopefully that way you get a new piston.
These look like the right ones for 238 mm solid disks;
