I couldn’t agree more. At the moment, all that’s happening is they’re replacing obscenely heavy, gas guzzling monsters with obscenely heavy, electricity guzzling monsters.

Another reason I’m against them is they’re putting the occupants of smaller vehicles at greater risk in the event of a collision. Still, on the bright side, if they’re involved in an accident, they’re apparently four times more likely to overturn! 😆

Incidentally, I drive a 2015 Nissan Leaf and I’m quite happy to take advantage of zero road tax. However, I do believe everyone should pay something, based on The Polluter Pays principle. And that should include VAT on new vehicles.

Rant Over! 😇

I pay the tax for my 214 SEi by monthly direct debit, and it’s £14 a month which isn’t too bad. Having said that I’ve been looking at getting a 2015 VW Up later this year and the tax for that is £20 a year!

Yet my GTI is £180 per year, due to the registration date, but it’s apparently in the “real world” the least polluting, most economical model in the range thanks to the mapping & 6 speed gearbox!

Can only imagine how much the Cabby will cost once I declare the 1.8 turbo conversion.

The same - cars registered before 2001 are in simple under/over 1549cc banding.
