Maybe I'll buy a 416 GTI as my first car, but I'm worried about daily driver cost.

It's going to cost you 345 RFL every year! If you want one now is the time to buy as prices are starting to rise. Carry out due diligence and watch out for flippers! Always inspect the main subframe.
