216 Cabriolet Stop Lights

I needed to leave my Cabriolet with the engine running parked on my drive. I was surprised to return and see the Brake Lights illuminated. Pressing the brake pedal and releasing it turned them off, but after a while they came back on. Would you recommend checking the adjustment of the current switch or simply replacing it?

Thanks

Checking the adjustment is free - replacing the switch isn't.

So guess where I'd start?

Just take it off and clean it sound like it's sticking , new one won't be much 👍

There was quite a long section of switch actuator rod showing at the pedal end of the switch. I managed to undo the lock nut and rotate the switch to move it closer to the pedal. There is now no play, so I suspect I will no longer get phantom brake light actuation. The only issue is the need to be a contortionist to slide ones body upside down under the steering wheel to get at the switch mechanism to do the adjustment.
