I've just managed to win a set of roof bars on ebay, they come with an austin rover logo on the instructions and are branded as Automaxi
says they are for a 200/800 and look really odd - but I cany find a picture of them on a 200 or 800 anywhere...

the link above shows what they are like - any info would be great

You see them very occasionally on a photo of a 200 or 400 if you search under google images.
That set looks like it's an original OEM Automaxi variant - they're a UK manufacturer I think, or were. Rover also had these made with the Rover shield moulded into the white plastic end caps.
The locks are made by Ronis - a French manufacturer, so if you need spare keys you need to find a locksmith that cuts Ronis keys - the existing key(s) you got with the roof bars will have a number/code on them - quote this number and the locksmith can just call up the correct profile without actually needing your keys to copy.
Looks like you got some genuine Rover straps with the roof bars, which wouldn't have been part of the original item - they would have been about £10-£15 each, believe it or not.
Also looks like those foam wraps on the bars are unique to your set - I've seen one photo of a car fitted with the bars and they don't have the wraps - can't remember but I think it was one that had come up for sale on the forum a long time ago. I've seen another set for sale on Ebay at some point in the past and those didn't have the wraps either.
I know the fitting is different for a 200 3-door and 5-door or 400/tourer. On the latter cars, you have the edge of the roof available to hook the clamping plates over - i.e. you open the front and rear doors. On the 3-door, you don't have same roof edge available (no rear doors) so I'm not sure how they clamp at the back - I've never seen a set fitted to a 3-door I don' think.

Wow! Thanks for the reply!
Sounds like I've stumbled on to something a little unusual maybe?
As for fitment, I'm assuming they will fit in above the rear windows when opened, similar to opening the door to do the same - they are listed as fitting a three door - if not, I'll save them for my five door

Quite rare I'd say. They are universal fit, so the same set does 3 and 5 door models - they're just configured differently for the 3-door rear bar. It's a matter of figuring out how they fit - I assume the instruction sheet shown in the listing will tell you.Geoff GM wrote:Wow! Thanks for the reply!

Hi all, just an update on the roof bars - they have arrived but there are no fitting instructions and they are a pig to fit!!
I could really do with some pics or instructions where I can see how they are fitted
Already done a little damage to my roof - so a steer would be ace
Just can't seem to ratchet them up tight enough!

Are they perchance identical to concerto-charlie's? He's managed to fit his to his Concerto.
Errm. Just realised that the 3-dr experience is zilch on the Honda side of the family. Unless the instruction sheet survived and covered all.
