Wheel Clours

Post by Bean66 »

Hi All

Anyone got any recomendations for paint for wheels?

I've got a set of Olympic Addendums on my SW, which i think are original and they have a few scuffs and grazes in specific areas. They are not in bad enough nick to need full refurb at £150 to £200 but i can make them tidier.

Simple job, well not really, Got some CarPlan wheel silver and painted my centre cap as a test item and well its a million miles off and sticks out like a saw thumb.

So its just not a bright enough silver and lack the real sparkely metallic bits.

So has anyone found a paint that is a good match to the original Rover sparkely wheel silver.

Painted wheels look great, until it’s time to take the tyres off and the paint all cracks off. Do it right, do it once and powder coat. There are so many powder options now or like I have done twice with mine, go custom.

I’ve had gunmetal with anthracite metalics and black chrome with red metal flake.

Hi

Just had some new tyres and the paint is just needed for a few areas to tidy them up, def not worth the cost of a full refurb, but the centre cap is now def the wrong colour.

But i'd rather not spend 30 quid on 3 diff aerosols just to find the best colour match so had hoped someone would have a recomendation.

I cant remember what I used on the centres but I’ll have a look next time I’m at my garage
The picture below shows you the colour my centres came up and were a good match to the wheels

Hi All

I'd hoped someone had already sovd this one, but think i'm find the most sparkly silver colour i can or take one of the originla wheel caps to my local facotr and see if they can mix an aerosol.

I know they do a scan and match as i've used that before. i know they can match the colour, just hope they can match the sparkel bit.

...........the link I provided above not only provided the original Rover paint code, it also had details of a paint supplier that could mix it and also suggested some alternative 'off the shelf' paints....... :S

Hi GSi

TBH when i saw the date of the post as 2013 and that they couldn't find it i kind of skimmed the rest.

As St Helens is quite a way away i'll ask my local factor if they can make it from the code.

I had the wheels powder coated in my SEi. They are nowhere near the original colour but they look the part.
