A Post Exterior Trim Removal
I’ll be removing the above this week.
At the risk of asking a silly question, is it simply a case of gently prising it away from the post, starting from the top?

Re: A Post Exterior Trim Removal
Definitely dont just pull youll bend the finisher and damage the aperture in the A pillar.
The finishers are held in place with 4 clips. These clips are screwed on to the finisher on a threaded stud. The butterfly style clips are slightly rectangular and fit in a rectangular hole. In theory turning the clips with a thin spanner a 1/4 of a turn will release the clips. However if the clips have opened up i.e if they’ve been pulled, this may not occur.
Patience and gently persuasion is needed.
I asked the same question a couple of years ago and had some very helpful info.

I did have an overstock of the clips if needed. I can see how many i have left as i may need some soon as well when I have a respray

i start at the bottom with thin 10 mm spanner and turn 90 deg push thin plastic or wood ( ie nail file wrap with tape dont tell the wife ) one side then the other to release clips and move up and repeat best when it very hot or pour hot water on them .

Thanks Plodder and Chris.
Hell’s Bells, my memory is shot as those who know me will confirm!
I seem to remember buying a special and quite expensive spanner and quite a few clips from a Company called Rejel?

It was the p&p that was the killer.Topcat Tomcat wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 2:49 pm I seem to remember buying a special and quite expensive spanner and quite a few clips from a Company called Rejel?
So use their eBay store:

Re: A Post Exterior Trim Removal
Wish I had known about the ebay account. P&P with them direct was £10

Re: A Post Exterior Trim Removal
When I ordered mine, I pointed out that I thought the postage cost was excessive.
The only response was to send me a load more clips!

Re: A Post Exterior Trim Removal
So far so good. I thought I would take of the offside wing (and bumper) to see if it would be easier to gain access and it appears to be!
I’ve released the first two clips quite easily without any apparent damage to the trim. However, there is a curved piece about 5 cm long, halfway between the two clips preventing removal.
Before I exert any force (
), what is it and how do I deal with it?

Re: A Post Exterior Trim Removal
I don’t recollect there being anything else there.
There might have been a piece of sponge on the middle of the finisher but Im not sure as I’ve only done the job once.
I’m sure there are no other clips .
I dont have any photos of the inside of the finisher either that I can show you.
Tend to take loads of pictures now so i can recall what it all looks like in the future
But hopefully someone with more experience will be able to advise.
Hope the respray goes well. Currently I’ve had quotes between £3500 and £5000. The hailstone dents in the roof and bonnet I think will add a bit to the cost on mine.
