ABS Light on - R8 Coupe

Post by Lee-2246 »

Hi,

The ABS light comes on when I haven't driven the car for a while (3 or 4 months), after a day or 2 of driving the light will intermittently come on or stay off, then after say a week of driving the light stays off until parked up for a long period again. Only started doing it since after lockdown where the car was parked in the garage for most of 18 months.

Is there any way of reading the codes without a reader, doing a google search doesn't really show up much? I know on old Jap cars I've owned you can sometimes bridge some of the pins on the diagnostics port to get the code to flash on the instrument cluster, is this something that can be done with the Rover?

Car is a 95 2.0 T series coupe

Thanks,
Lee

Theres a clip under the drivers seat, bridge with a paper clip and look for the code displayed by the alarm light.

These might help

If its a wheel speed sensor pick-up or reluctor ring that needs cleaning that's nice and easy. After that it gets more difficult... but parts are more readily available than for the Honda ALB system.
I like Twin Cams, Single Cams, Turbos and 5-cam VVCs :cool

Thanks for that John, very helpful. Looking at the fault finding part I'm wondering if its low voltage from the battery (its getting quite old) as my trickle charger plug keeps flashing red telling me it needs charging even after a drive.

Will report back when the light next comes on, someone might find this post useful in the future.

Is your alternator sucking in enough electrons?

Light came on again after the car being parked up for a few days so bridged the diagnostic plug and got a code 42 - front right wheel speed sensor.

The voltage thing was a red herring :laughing2

Thanks for your help guys.
