Suspension Questions

Post by Bean66 »

Hi All

Just had my MOT and my Streetwise passed but has a coule of advisories.

Play in the NS track rod end and suspension ball joint.

No probs i'll replace them pretty soon.

Track rod end no probs but can i just replace the ball joint or is it a whole arm job?

I've replaced the ball joint on the wife mazda 2 and no probs getting them, even though Mazda will only sell you the whole ARM, GSF do a replacement ball joint. But they list nothing but the whole arm for the R3. Same with Eurocarparts and DMGRS. If i can do just the BJ any suggestion of a supplier?

Similar issue with the rear H frame bushes. They were on a previous MOT as being a bit crumbly and they were noted again.

So i got the bushes but my workshop manual says take to your Rover dealer.

Now they have not failed the MOT but as i've got new ones so i'd like to swap them. Has nayone done these and how difficult is it.

Cheers Bean

Hi. Just change the track rod ends if that’s the fail item. I would have thought rover 25 ones may fit but don’t quote me on that as I’m not 100%. Maybe other members can add

The lower ball joint is part of the lower arm - they're the same as R8 and R3 200 parts, so should be reasonably widely available.

They're on Rimmer Bros, for example - https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID002222

DMGRS now sell new H-frame bushes - https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/rover- ... pre-order/

They can be a bit awkward to fit as the have a nylon outer, not steel, and it's possible to break the snubber 'ears' off...
I like Twin Cams.... and Single Cams...and now Turbos
