As long as the engine turns over I would change that gasket asap. The K series head gasket is straightforward to replace, the best head gasket set to use is the Land Rover type, this fits all 16v K series engines was was re-engineered to make it bulletproof. Plus it is no more than a standard Unipart Rover item.

when you get the head off don`t turn the crank until head is back on as you nay move the liners. Not a good move.

Just my pennys worth

The car is running like new now and all that had gone on the headgasket was the rubber. I didnt even had to skim the head *laughs*.Dave
