M16 and T16 Engines
I am a bit confused about these engine types, I know my car came with an M16 engine, but since being rebuilt could it have become a T16 engine, and how would I know. I have read that the M16 was very shortlived.
BTW the engine on my car is completely non standard,
but are parts interchangeable between the two engines, i.e. heads, gaskets etc ...the reason I ask is I have a load of bits that I would be happy to give away, but not sure if they would work on the T16 engine.

Wider ROVER font like that used on earlier Rover 800s gives it away. Smaller ROVER font on later Rover 200/400/600/800 is the T-Series. The engine was short-lived in the 220 but was used for several years in the original Rover 800.
Legend has it that the M-Series is stronger which might be useful for motorsport.

M series pistons and rods stand up to more boost than T series ones when turbo'd which is why M series pistons and rods can fetch a pretty penny, especially if its a turbo M series ;)
I know someone whos managed to fit the M series covers onto a T series head, took a bit of machining but works, and again, with a bit of machine work you can get an M series head onto a T block.
Oh one other thing a 220 M series sump is rarer than the waste product of a rocking horse
