Illuminated door-mounted electric window door switches?

Post by TOMC4T »

Just wondered whether anyone had sussed out how to modify the Rover 200 Coupe door-mounted electric window switches so that they are illuminated? I know Rover fitted the same style switches to the later 200 'bubble' and MG ZR at least, but even those aren't illuminated.

Any thoughts?

It isn't something I have ever thought about.

Everything else within the interior is illuminated, and I wonder why Rover never bothered with the electric window switches?

I thought about this too, the only way i could think of was to dremel a slit out above and below each switch and put some l.e.d.s inside. I thought it was gonna be a lot of messing about for something that might not even look vey good afterward.

Rover 600 has similar switches in the centre console which are iluminated (just).

Wonder if you could use those?

Thanks for that Dave - was thinking the same thing ie a lot of work and could possibly look shoite! Decided not to bother now - I've more important things to sort first! :rolleyes

Thanks E_T_V, but I think they are quite a bit wider, and with all of the mechanism behind the console, would make it pretty tricky (if not impossible) to fit in the doors.

Right now back to the real world - getting my car MOT'd! :rolleyes

I think some of the accords have the switches in the door handle though. Not sure if they are illuminated though.

I was kindly made aware of the following themgzr.co.uk link by someone on rovertech.net earlier today.

OK, the very clever individual hasn't used switches from the MG Rover / Honda parts bin, but he has mounted some LEDs in a suitable location in the centre console. I see no reason why the same technique couldn't be used for the door switches as well. >

Alright Dave, sorry didn't think of that! :slapme

There are about 35 photos in total, plus a great deal of text in the tutorial. Rather than repost it all, here's a few photos to give you an idea of what he achieved. OK, it's been applied to the later Mk3 dash, but no reason why the same couldn't be used on the earlier version...
