Hi All, Long time reader 1st time poster!
Today I bought a really good example of a Rover 214Sli on that famous auction site, the item number is 130360738266
Well, it drove back fine. Yup the head gasket has gone and i'm not at all worried on this car as I know enough people to fixit (booked in Monday eve!).
So, I washed the car and it really is a fine example, however, I have found one fault with this car which I think needs my attention rather soon!
The swimming pool in the spare wheel well..............!
The car has sprung a leak and is collecting water as if it were out of fashion. The car DOES have an electric sunroof and the right hand side seems to be wetter then anywhere else.
I'd like to get this sorted as it's really raining out there and i'm not sure how much the car is collecting.
Many thanks!
John

Well I guess there is good news and bad news
The good news is that it is a common problem but rarely expensive to fix
The bad news is that there are a number of possible sources of the leak.
The usual culprits are sunroof drains, rear light cluster foam seals and lastly the boot vent and the foam seal for this too.
There are a few posts on here about it I think, and I wrote a bit in the club magazine a while ago which I'll see if I can dig out.

Right,
Ok,
took light clusters off, the clusters were a little wet BUT not enought i'd think for water. I could be wrong, the sponge gasket WAS DRY but was a little wet at the top but not soaked... The screws holding them in place were not as tight as i'd expected. So I made sure they were all tight as could be.
The sunroof runoff pipe looked intackt and dry to me... So not touched this.
I vaxed the boot carpet and drained the water off, So, its 80% drier then it was this morning, lets wait and see!
If still wet then can only be those vents, which, I have not enough confidence to do as it means bumper off!

Taking the bumper off is not difficult, the worst thing about it is lining it up right to refit it, as it's a big moulding...

Re: New owner 214 Sli ---**Help Needed **---
Back to the H/Gasket issue, What are the chances of block damage? I've topped up with water today, as tomorrow its going to be done BUT i've noticed that there are two leaks.
One at the front and one at the back, I THINK that the water is comming from the h/gasket on both sides, but could be wrong....
I've not started it and dont intend to till Itake it on the 3 miles trip to get it fixed.
water is defo running down the block (Poss from the head) to the floor.
Anyone got any ideas on this one?
