Piston Valve Clearance

Post by John Fish »

Can the pistons hit the valves on the 16V DOHC 1.4 K series engine if the cambelt breaks?

Can the pistons hit the valves on the 8V SOHC 1.4 K series engine if the cambelt breaks?

And the Honda engines?

Help would be appreciated as I have noticed a number of non-runners for sale!

As far as i remember all are interference engins. That is to say that in the event of a cam belt failure Piston to valve contact is MOST likely.

If you have time and chance your arm on a non runner pop on a belt and check the compressions.

chances are if your buying a K series that that the head gasket needs doing so for £3 a valves change the valves and head gasket and have trouble free motoring for a while.

I don't think the honda engines are interference type. I had a timing belt go and there was no damage to the engine
