Rover 216 Honda Engine wont turn

Post by rover216sp »

Hi All,

1st posting so go easy on me!

I have just given my dad my old car back that he gave me(!) and it has sat for 8weeks not turning a wheel after i was doing 250mils a week in.

He came to use it last weekend and it wouldn't start. I went round on Monday to try and recify it as i had issues with it flooding after standing and doing short journeys.

I tried starting her and got everything up until i turned the key and got a clicking sound form the starter motor. I am guessing the solenoid will not engage and turn the crank. The engine will run sweet as anything, but only after a push start.

I have got the part number but is there a difference between an auto stater motor and a manual one...- i am thinking no?!

Can anyone point me in the right direction plese thanks! :D

Check all your wiring first including battery/body and engine/body earth straps. (Take them off and wire brush.)
Kind Regards

Don't thinks so as engine runs fine after push starting and keeps battery charged

It could be the starter and the starter for a manual and auto are the same.

Glad it sorted now, but that earth wire from the slam panel to the rocker cover isn't the main earth it far to small for that and not in the best of positions for a main earth, the main earth is on the gear box at the top towards the front.
