Rover 220 GTI
Re: Rover 220 GTI
When I had my 214sli the petrol tank got very low afterwards I had jerky running every time I filled up. Just a thought if your jerkyness presists try flushing the fuel system and petrol tank.
Re: Rover 220 GTI
I never thought of that I suppose that is something else to try before throwing in the towel.
Re: Rover 220 GTI
A little bit of a result this morning.
Got the number plate lights working and the rear drivers side driving light sorted.
I went out this morning and checked the fuses under the dashboard again and after a tip I checked number 7 and 8 fuses and when I checked 7 it had blown so I replaced it and tested the lights again nothing.
I then went to the rear drivers light cluster pulled out the cluster and disconnected the wiring loom and inspected connections. And then checked the bulbs as well for connection problems. The little push in bulbs responsible moved a little must have been when we took it out to check it the other day and obviously didn't put it back in right. All of a sudden we have light.
I checked the numberplate lights and low and behold the drivers side one was working.
I had a look at the other side and had a play with the connections and again we have light.
I didn't want to push my luck so I'm happy with the rear lights being fixed for today.
I'm going to wait til Wednesday before tackling the throttle body so I don't have to worry about having it done and dusted the same day and getting the missus to work.
I still also have to work out why the front fogs aren't working and whilst I was checking the other fuses I checked the separate fuse that the fogs are wired to and that was fine. So I guess a little more investigation is required when I can get my hands on a multi meter.

Re: Rover 220 GTI
Ok finally got round to having a look at the throttle body on the car from where it was leaking.
I've taken it off the car leaving me with this

And a very grubby and manky looking bottom of the throttle body itself.

One thing I did find was that what I can only assume was a cork gasket has well and truly failed due to the clues of corrosion left. I removed the 4 short screws and seperated the 2 halves.

I had a bit of a rub down with some wet and dry to get rid of the most of it but when I came to have a trial fit of the pipe where the pipes go doesn't sit flush with the base. It's as if it has become bananafied. See for yourself in these 2 pics.

and

Now I'm concerned that I won't get a tight seal when I put it back together using the gasket sealant. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so what did you do to solve it?

Re: Rover 220 GTI
i would file it level.
Re: Rover 220 GTI
It's quite a bend though Graeme surely that would weaken it filing it so much?gbs100 wrote:i would file it level.
Are the T series bottoms the same design as the M series ones? Can I just replace it?
Re: Rover 220 GTI
My first attempt was rubbish as with the bend in the casing the casing leaked like a sieve when I turned the car over. It was suggested that I try and take a little off the centre of the casing which was the main cause for the pivoting on the centre of the casing. I was a little concerned about doing this but well I bit the bullet and dug out the grinder and very very carefully I've taken some off the casing.
There is still a little bit of movement but nowhere near what it was and I've refitted the modified base back onto the throttle body along with some more sealant and once it has gone off a bit I will refit and then see how it goes.

Re: Rover 220 GTI
Is it different on the bottom though where the pipes go into the bottom of the throttle body housing though?
Re: Rover 220 GTI
Looking at mine, and it appears to not have the two pipe connections there at all.
