Rover "moans" occasionally

Post by g259fsg »

Has anyone else got a Rover 214 that occasionally moans to itself when parked up and switched off. Our 1990 GSi, does it every now and again and also sometimes out on the road. It's done it as long as I can remember but doesn't show any running problems. Sounds a bit like the fuel pump.

Cheers,
Hugh

Mine does this occansionally, pretty sure it is the fuel tank venting.

Mt 220 sounds like it is powering down. Sounds comical.

Sounds like it's coming from the back end. Fuel tank vent does seem like a possibility. Surely the fuel pump wouldn't get power when the ignition is off.

This is a fairly common fault, nothing to worry about really, usually solved with flowers or chocolate :)

Haha! I was wondering if this was just my car or whether anyone else had noticed it. My G-reg 214SLi does this when it's been run; I'm fairly sure it's the fuel tank venting pressure (like other people have said).

I've not heard it for a while, but that's because the car's been laid up on my driveway for three years! I may even start work on it soon....
