High Idle on Rover 220 Coupe 'Non-Turbo' @ 1100RPM

Post by Rash »

Hello,

I've cleaned out the Breather Pipe to the ECU, and the good news is that the car is running better; and not cutting out on me anymore at junctions.

However it is now idling at 1100 rpm not the recommended 850/900 rpm that it should. Any idea's on what it can be, do you think I should look at replacing the aforthmention breather pipe to the ECU.

Thanks in advance,

Rash

Breaker's Yard, since you cannot get replacement parts from local ex Rover dealer.

theres abit more to it than just prerssing the accelerator 5 times, are you aware of the proper method?

What is the idle speed when cold and hot?

Have you changed the coolant temperature sensor recently? If not then do so as this is a common fault on the T series engines.

I think the proper procedure for a stepper reset is:

Turn igntion key on so the dash lights come on.
Depress the throttle pedal fully rapidly 5 times.
Listen for the clicking noise
Wait for it to stop.
Start the engine and wait for the idle speed to stabilise.

I have replaced the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor, with a genuine MG Rover replacement part. The high idle is same at hot & Cold at about 1100 RPM.

According to the Rover Workshop Manual, I have re-adjusted the throttle cable to reduce the rev's, this has seemed to have corrected the problem. I will run the car over the next couple of days and see how it's goes.

P.S.
I will also have a go at the stepper reset.

Thanks again for everyone response's.
