As another member has pointed out another coupe to me as being "inspiration"

time for rubbish to get real

hadnt used the da for over a year, forgot all my process i had picked up from detailing forums etc and tbh really cant be bothered anymore

it was summer up here today in edinburgh and felt the need to see how much i could restore the paintwork like on the coupe

( paint job is needed and i am now saving for this)

o/s roof after wash
Image
Image
Image

General condition of bonnet
Image

time to see whats embedded in the paint
Image

clay bar after pass on o/s roof section, very clean to be honest, very little fallout picked up
Image

panel/working area masked up
Image

swirling in abundance
Image

Using the AG two stage paint correction system today for quickness, stage one is the "cutting" stage
Image

after a few passes with stage 1, a lot better, but not amazing, but i can see a section of failed clear coat coming through so cant do much more to this section in all honesty
Image
Image

Stage 2 refine
Image

And a quick coat of HD wax
Image
Image

Need to check wax applicator pad as application of wax appears to have induced swirling again :(
Image

50/50 on the bonnet, again, better but, lots of chips and defects, and swirling still present

Image
Image
ImageImage
Image
Image

Some more new stickers and brake fluid advice tag
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Image

Front rub strips now black(spare set)

Summer again today in norway

n/s panel above windscreen ( tbh needs repainted )

Image
Image
Image

a couple of quick passes later and this is as much as i want to spend here, lifting paint were rust is bubbling so will just leave be
Image

50/50 shot showing, whilst still rubbish its an improvement
Image

roof section i was working on yesterday, as you can see, RDS and swirling still present
Image
Image

Again vast improvement, but the entire body has scratches that haven been painted over at various stages

Moved onto the only area which was totally unacceptable, even until pending respray, the bonnet
prepping underway
Image

extent of paint defects
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Moved back to the roof for another go
Image
Image
Image

Bonnet after initial pass
Image
Image
Image

as you will agree, horrendous, and just wast improving, just far too many RDS and clear coat failings

50/50 pre wax vs untreated side
Image
Image
Image

check the crazy scratches
Image
Image

n/s after refine and 1st coat wax
Image
Image

now onto the other side, pre work sit rep
Image
Image
Image

tbh didnt spend too much time on the other side, post passes of restore and refine
Image
Image
again notice crazy marks and scratches

Image
Image

final wax coat applied
Image
Image

Moved onto tidiy up a few areas at the back
Image
Image
Image
Image

after
Image
Image
Image
yes i know excess compound is on the letters

Image
Image
Image

Moved the onto some more "modz" as my haters like to call them

catch can/tank install
Image
Image

installed and first section of stainless braided hose cut to length and installed ( remember this pipe jase? *laughs*)
Image

second section installed and leads down to samco s bend feed
Image

extent of orange peel and swirling to the n/s
Image
Image
Image
Image

only did a quick pass with the restore compound to tidy marks up, so still terrible but wasnt doing anymore

Image
Image
Image
Image

continued with dress up of bay
Image
Image
Image

reason for mate socket caps is the old bolts had snapped here so had to drill out and tap/thread
Image
Image
Image
Image

h8 away

Updates

Some progress has been made on the cooling side of things

Replacement uprated radiator is finished and awaiting collection

Commissioned and supplied by Cableguy,as part of the radiator services he offers( NO BREACH HERE, RECOMMENDING SERVICES/PRODUCTS ONLY) it is a Rover sport tomcat racer radiator essentially, with slight modifications

Image

Image

Above images show the rad in production, and the following one shows it finished ( more detailed images will be posted on a separate update come installation time)

Image

Improvements over the original design are as follows:

* End tanks modified for better flow to all four cores, compared to the RS one which is limited, on the first and fourth

Also some new images of the recently refurbished Oz Supperleggera's i bought from RY220 after the demise of N150

Some before shots
Image

Image

Image

Left them with Cableguy after my recent parts run down to the midlands coupled with 4 brand new yokohamma parada spec 2 rubber, to have them stripped back and overhauled , powder coated gloss black

Ok no my car they are against, but this was done at my request. Hope they work ok on the car.

Image

Image

I am over the moon, the works carried out look to be of the very highest standard. So thanks to Cableguy for facilitating that.

Hate away

*apologies for disjointed nature of the photos, just the order i took them/uploaded, and the spelling mistakes and poor grammar
