Hi All
Wondering if anyone can give me some tips,
I was chatting with a guy on eBay that does white dials, I asked if he did them for a Rover, he said he has the templates but they have back lighting so won't light up at night,
But in my 216 I noticed it also has light shining down on the dials from the top of the clocks.

Anyhow i told him the design up and he's sent me an image with 4 different designs on, i asked for the logo but not sure on that so will probably have a set but without the logo,



He said the colours will be slightly different shade when finished and covered, i can also have a carbon effect or a plain effect vinyl,

My 216 is red hence i wanted that in the first place, but on seeing the images i think i want the black, or the blue,

The holes are bigger so they just go over the pointers so they are easy to fit and at £5.50 including recorded delivery i think they are worth a pop,

What do people prefer the blue or the black?

Plus, the red line is in the wrong place for a 216. That looks like the 1.4 K-series red line.

FWIW, I don't mind the look of the Fuel and Temp gauges but the speedo and rev counter gradations are way too heavy.

And sticking the Rover badge on the speedo is a bit... well. Even the later cars only had it spelt out in nicely spaced Times Roman.

Could do better myself if I had the templates...

Actually that's a good point I think i'd rather have "ROVER" written across them

Just wondering if the "italic" style text looks a bit chavvy too ?

He also does the plain standard white dials but I think they look a bit plain
Deffo want one of the newer version heater dials though



I've spent about 2 weeks deciding on these, I only knew of one rover forum but wasn't going to pay to sign up to ask what people thought! charging people to talk about their hobby seems mental!

Would people recommend the original looking set over the ones with the ring things ?

Hey guys
After taking on board what you said I asked for some of the original stuff back on the dials as i don't want it to look chavvy,

Heres the final design


Had the KMH done in grey because i don't use it,

The fonts are the same as the original dials apart from the RPM bit at the bottom, i like capital letters there where as my dials are done in lower case,



Would it fail the MOT if i had this speedometer design without a KMH on it at all ?

Your gradations are too heavy and that redline should be about 6750 on a 216 SOHC, from memory - or around 7200 on a DOHC.

The "ROVER" wording is a light "Times Roman" with a wider spacing on the later cars:



...but this was a later evolution of the branding.

FWIW, I liked the first set of white dials you showed, which are basically a copy of the original Rover ones...

Those original white dials look awesome,

The rev line is in the same position as the red line on my dials, I've also had a look online and others are in the same position too,

The newer bubble shapes have the red line in a different position though

I scrapped the white dial idea in the end and went for black dials,



Just need to buy a red pen pot of paint now to do just the end of the pointers in red, will upload some pics when I've got them fitted
