Rover 214 wont turn over(possible electrical problem)

Post by mike2007 »

I have a Rover 214 Sei 1995(oldshape) it was broke into recently and now when i turn the key nothing happens no lights, no starter motor, nothing. I can alarm it and use the remote central locking still but cannot start the car. Underneath the dash where all the fuse and wires are the plastic cover was ripped off but all the wires appear to be intact. i have pictures if anyone wants to see as there might be wires missing.

if anyone could help i would be very grateful.

Thanks

Michael

Try removing the cowling (surround) from the steering column, sounds like the plug on the end of the ignition barrel is either not conected or a wire has been damaged going to it.have you checked the large fuses by the battery?

hey mate i checked the wire that comes of the ignition barrel but looks fine. however the day i checked it after it got broken into the that specific wire goes to this yellow connection plug and they were disconnected and when i connected them togther the starter motor come on but didnt turn over then it would just not try and start at all.

also i have checked the main fuses like engine management system and stuff but the main ones seem to be fine.

thanks for your help on this one.

cheers

Sounds like they may have cooked the starter because they havn't been able to bypass the immoboliser?

if it was the starter motor thats gone, would the heaters and igniotion lights not come on as well? also any ideas how much it would cost to get this repaired?

cheers mate

have you got remote locking, if you have try locking the door on the remote and then unlock it with your key using the code, this sometimes unlock your immobiliser, as your immobiliser stays on if the car tries to start with out demmobilising the engine

thanks for the reply but its definitely not the immobiliser because the red light on the dash doesnt flash. the car just seems dead as if it has no battery.

Thanks

Check the main fuses, the big 40+ amp ones that live in the engine bay fuse box, if they've blown one of more then the igntion simply won't work.
Also check that the battery terminals are on tight, (as thieves might remove them to silence the alarm)

On the right hand side there is a rectangular box nr the battery. Fuses are in there. Hope that helps :)
