As Johnny says exactly. Mine came off my brother's old 216 and I painted it black so it looked more like a short rubber ducktail than a Rover plastic effort. It divides opinions. The most difficult bit was getting the nuts on the bolts, had to find someone with pixie hands because my ridiculous spade hands wouldn't fit in the gap.

you can't get in on the middle bit, the bracing in the 400 boot is different to the 200 tailgate so you have to broggle about in very short space to get the nut on the bolt. Actually doing the nut up is much easier because you can then get a spanner in the gap.

Looks good in black, mate of mine had one on his 3dr GTi but didn't twig it was the same.
