I did this mod to my old Cabby but I left it in for the new owner, in a nut shell
the Cabriolet has a bespoke interior light unit compared to the other cars in
the R8 range, of course it is out of the 'Longbridge Parts Bin' as it is usually
fitted in 90's Land Rover's.

When I got my first Cabby the blank plate intrigued me as it looked like it was
used for something else, a quick search for 'rover interior light' on ebay found a
unit with a Map Light function, they are handed so the map light will face left
or right, if your fitting one to a Cabby then it will face forwards or back, I got
one just, well, because, handy for a rear passenger though.

Replacement is easy if you recline the drivers seat, carefully pop off the lens
and it is held in by two black Phillips screws.

Comparison photo.

As you can see the new light unit is plug and play but I did have to extend the wires as
it is a bit tight inside but it didn't take too long to do.

While it was out I upgraded mine with a warm white LED panel, much more
brighter than the conventional festoon bulb, I also put a 6w halogen bulb in
the map light part, the halogen bulb has offset pins but it will go in.
The map light operates from its own switch like the override switch on the
standard light.

I fitted the wrong LED panel at first, it was a cool white unit but still good.

This is a pointless mod to just get a small additional light that will be seldom
used but hay, I was bored *laughs*, but if you are interested in doing it yourself then
it will cost you about £11 for the light and less than £2 for the bulbs, I shall
take a photo of the light on at night but I can assure you it is nice and bright.
