Fob resync not working / Immobiliser won't disable - Rover 220 GSi Coupe

Post by tehPete »

Hi, random amateur newbie in a desperate situation here :) I've been having problems for a while with my fob losing sync; up till now I've been able to resync it with reliable success for the best part, but now the resync process isn't working. When it's done this in the past, I've sprayed WD40 down the lock (thinking it likely an electrical issue) and it's worked, but not any more.

Can anyone offer any advice? FYI, the resync process I've been using is to remove the battery from / reset the fob, unlock the door with the key, and then hit the lock button on the fob until it locks. Annoyingly, a few times now it's managed to sync up enough to lock the door, but then seemingly lost sync again the very next click. I've heard that there's a way to disable the immobiliser via the ECU but the only reference I can find to this points you to contacting someone on an address that no longer works or exists for details (naturally, we don't want that information in the public domain).

The car has lived its entire life by the sea, and is on its last legs it seems (though it's been a relatively trouble-free 6 years to be fair); it'll be sold for spares & repairs / scrap soon enough so really any options anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Posting update - may in fact be the keyfob, found a couple of solderpoints on it that under closer examination are possibly cracked, so I'm gonna fetch my soldering kit and give it a go.

Good luck with the soldering - fingers crossed!

There is a fella called BobbyBrown on this, and several other forums, who is a dab-hand at fixing fob and immobiliser problems in exchange for money. I can pm you contact details if useful.

If it gets your car working again it may save it from the scrappy :clapping

There aren't many of these left, let's not lose another one :angel

I had a problem with the car I just bought with the fob not working. The seller was really upset cos we couldn't get past the immobiliser and I had a long way to get home in the car.
I then asked if the original handbook was in the car which it was. It explains in there how to use the key in the driver's door to clear the immobiliser if you have the code.
I will try and sort out the fob though or buy another for the future.

Could you forward Bobby Brown's contact details to me?

Okay, so update time; I've soldered the two broken points, and from what I can tell from my amateur testing with a multimeter the fob is still working but the car no longer responds to it, & standard reset procedures no longer work. I left my SDR dongle at home so I can't check to confirm that the fob is still transmitting, but the button works at least. Now stuck with seemingly no way to get this working again :/ Can anyone help at all?

OP, 2 months down since your troubles began, what is the latest, I have had similar issues, and also contacted Bobby with whose help i managed to fix some of my problems, main one being where the heck did they fit this Alarm Module so that i could have a quick look at. I owe him a drink, but I am still having a few issues which Booby is not going to sort out for me as the issues are problems with wiring, not programming.

With some knowledge I gathered, I can exchange some useful information with you if you like, or want, my current issue is +12v feed to the Alarm Module, that has gone! its just not there, and all fuses are intact. So I am having to supply it with an alternative +12v feed at pin 26 of the Lucas 5as Alarm module.

If anyone else knows where it obtains its original feed +12v please be kind to a Rover 216, and let its owner know. :laughing2
