216 Cabriolet replacement hood
A quick update for you all on the front. You may recall in an earlier posting I said I was only about 95% happy with it.
Well, I stripped it back and re-did it again this morning.

is how it looked before.

is now it now looks. Only subtly different, but all the creases are out now so I am now 99% happy with it.
Regards

I could probably put a good lot of text together (I do do technical authoring at work) based on the workshop manual I worked from and also the experiences I had, however as Mike says, photos are not that forthcoming - I started well but owing to the problems I hit the photos went to the back of my mind...
Also, to clarify, I changed just the outer hood - headlining and the fabric between the hood and headlining remained. Mike, am I right in thinking you changed the whole roof or did I misunderstand that part?
Is it the hood only changing like I did that you are interested in or the whole roof?
If its just the hood outer I can put some words together no problem over the next couple of weeks but photos to accompany may be problematic. I could nick the drawings from the workshop manual, but would there be copyright issues there?

Hi,
I have pasted a link to the magazine from last year. There is an article in there which Tom did on the PG1 gearbox which should give you an idea.

Personally I can't see workshop pics being a problem. I just thought this would be a fantastic for a technical article, combined with experience of those who have done it. Now summer is on the way I bet lots of people will be considering getting their cabriolets out or perhaps purchasing one.

Rover 220 GTi Turbo.
I replaced everything except the metal frame, and now wish I had replaced that too as its rusting away :(tmwsccsh wrote: Also, to clarify, I changed just the outer hood - headlining and the fabric between the hood and headlining remained. Maybe if you start something tim and let me have a read, then i'll add some parts from my own experience too and we'll have some kind of crazy mixture!
Did you ever get that article together? Just bought a lovely cabby convertible, its got a new hood fitted, which seems to fit and work well, but there are two loose cables - one either side, that dont seem to be connected to anything, they dont seem to affect the roof working, but would be nice to know what they are supposed to be doing...!
Thanks,
matt.
Thanks,
matt.
Tim wrote a lovely article, which I have the draft of and it is lovely! You can tell what he does for a living.
I'm sadly no longer going to be a rover owner much longer, I just bought a megane cc, so I am giving the rover to my parents to enjoy for the summer!
I have to say, the 10 days I did have of driving the 216 cab were lovely, the car has such a lot of go in it for a 1.6.
Enjoy your car!
