Spanish Rover

Post by sithering »

Hi all

I live in southern Spain and have just become the proud owner of a 1992 Rover 218 SLD. Second-hand cars are ridiculously expensive over here but this one was an absolute bargain which I couldn't resist!

Cheers

Thanks guys

Several years ago I had an L reg 420 which was a great car until the head lost compression on one cylinder and I was advised to get rid ASAP.

The new car is an old K reg and is RHD but has been transferred onto Spanish plates by the former owner. He had the car for 12 years and supplied me with EVERY bill from the time he bought it in 1996! Although it's done 194000 miles it's been well maintained and had an oil change every 3000. There are a couple of issues with rust but over here that's less of a problem, and there is a slight oil leak which I suspect may be the crankshaft seal. I detect a slight shudder at speed when turning the steering wheel, but this is presumably a result of general wear-and-tear.

It starts, it drives, and it stops without drama. I am also pleased to report I filled up with diesel the other day and have calculated I am getting no less than 54 MPG!!!

Not bad for €200

cheers
John
