216 R SE 1998 cabrio
216 R SE 1998 cabrio
Hi guys, I'm back to Rovers after being harassed by a rust on a BMW 316 Baur and running Golf Mk1's (the latter being a weakness of mine)
Bought the Rover unseen, not always a wise move but it wasn't feasible to view. Very content with the car - clean, modest miles.
A couple of things I want to do - re-bush the gear linkages and explore lowering the suspension a bit (4" between tyre top and wheelarch seems a lot?
Has anyone done this, is it difficult, and crucially, is it worthwhile?
Thanks!

Hi and welcome. Re bushing the selector definitely a great idea. No idea on lowering. Have you seen the video series on youtube with Matt recommissioning a cabriolet?

Re: 216 R SE 1998 cabrio
I used a company called https://www.spring-loaded.co.uk/
Killen springs worked for me , they're not to harsh and lower about 30mm . Gear change i used powerflex Bush make a difference..
Stay away from PI they are cheap rubbish , I know someone who fitted them and we both have the same shocks but his frightening on the motorway at speed .

I’ve never heard of re-bushing gear linkages. What symptoms does that improve?

It improves the precision of the gear changes. I poly bushed the red Tomcat, because one of the previous owners clearly lacked mechanical sympathy. Although it's not perfect, at least I can find reverse gear now!Paul_1978_yorks wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 10:06 am I’ve never heard of re-bushing gear linkages. What symptoms does that improve?

Re: 216 R SE 1998 cabrio
Avoid lowering a cabby as the higher spring rates will make it shake even more
I like Twin Cams.... and Single Cams...and now Turbos
