New member: 93 Coupé with added weight reduction

Post by TomcatMatt »

Hi All,
I've just registered on here and got myself underway bringing a Coupe back to the road.
It's a family heirloom, has served us all well for 173k miles. Suffering from pretty severe weight reduction in places but we've not given up yet.
I've posted in parts for sale, as right now the big sticking point is the subframe at the front. Any suggestions on where to go for parts very gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

:welcome

Sounds like an interesting project and with the help with the subframe, you should be soon on the way to get your car back on the road.

The front subframe is one of the few rust spots on R8s - the others being the rear subframe (confusingly still at the front of the car), sills and rear 3/4 panels. These are the places to check next.

Good luck :clapping

Thanks GtiJohn. I can tick all 3 of those boxes and now in need of the rear (front) subframe and outer 3/4 panels.

Welcome to the club. You’re not the only one who’s had a problem like that!

Perhaps it’s another future remanufacturing project? :)

Chris is doing a cracking job of repairing subframes, where possible - unfortunately some are beyond repair.

We will not being able retool these due to the complexity and gauge of the original pressings. We'll be restricted to the type of panels we (sill and 3dr/Cabby
rear3/4 repair panels) and the Coupe Owners Club (Coupe sill and rear3/4 repair panels) have already made available :angel

That’s a shame. Ditto about Chris though.

Morning all, thank you for taking the time to come back to me. A member has contacted re. The subframes which is brilliant!

The rear 3/4 am I reading that right? They're available through the coupé owners club?

Yip, there are now 2 options available - a smaller panel for just the area in front of the rear wheel arch and a larger panel which includes the wheel arch :)

Brilliant (and so good that people out there care enough to make these panels).

Could you please send me a link to where I can get hold of these panels? (I need smaller for the passenger and larger for the drivers)

have to join the club first, which is worth it on its own as the amount discounted almost pays for your membership.
