Website downtime
The site is on move in the next few days that will result in some down time.

He's told me "We're currently waiting for the tag change notification. If you haven't already requested the IPS Tag to be changed to LCN with your current registrar, please do so.
The speed of the tag change will depend on your current registrar but should take no longer that 24hrs to complete."
Which I hope means more to you than it does to me......
Can you be in touch with him please and then update us with what the transfer plan is?
Thank you for getting this sorted.

Re: Website downtime
all i was going to do was transfer .co.uk add hosting to it, transfer to site as is over to that hosting.
then just change the org.uk to forward to .co.uk until the dns and org.uk can be transferred over to the new host.
This is a rough idea of how i see the new site
but will build a new forum and ecom from scratch with all the newest updates so that should solve all our problems, i hope.

Re: Website downtime
The DNS should hopefully the same. I will let you know when it is moved.
I will forward the half finished site that I have written.
Why build a forum from scratch phpBB is very good and we are all up to date.
What problems are there?
I will need to talk who ever is going to be looking after the site through all the custom code, cron jobs, etc.
When it is moved Craig I can set you up on a sub domain for you to upload a demo site.

Does that mean all the helpful advice and experience currently accessible will be lost (forever!) ?1234dist wrote:This is a rough idea of how i see the new sitebut will build a new forum and ecom from scratch

That is not my intention.crepello wrote:Does that mean all the helpful advice and experience currently accessible will be lost (forever!) ?1234dist wrote:This is a rough idea of how i see the new sitebut will build a new forum and ecom from scratch
Currently the site is hosted on my own web hosting package. The committee has asked for the site to be transferred onto its own package. I have purchased some more space and I am just moving it over (not quite as simple as it sounds) hence the downtime.
Sometime in the near future the site requires a revamp. I started this and have a half finished site but unfortunately I just do not have the time with two children to finish it within a reasonable time. I believe Craig is going to be taking up the reins on this.
I did not understand his post on a new forum though. There is nothing wrong with this one.

Re: Website downtime
i prefer to build from scratch rather than template as its easier to customize. Both forum and ecom can be built in a day and then the new forum gets populated by the back up of the old forum so should be no difference there.
All the info will still be available but navigation to it will be cleaner rather than all on the front page.
I'm only here to help, if you don't want me to do it i'm happy to keep my spare time

Re: Website downtime
Craig you will have to catch me on some instant messaging as some of things you say do not make sense.
phpBB took a multi team of developers many years to develop they did not knock it up in a day. If you are just talking about re-skinning the forum then it is highly advised not to deviate from a main stream template beyond formatting to seamlessly fit with a website skin. A) They are a tried and tested format, people are familiar with it and dislike change B) ensuring the forum is security upgraded takes it beyond an afternoons work to something far larger and you need to be highly converse in php. C) What needs customising beyond formatting?

Re: Website downtime
First we want to get the site so that it can be updated with current information. So Lindsey needs to be able to transfer the site to people that have the time to be able to do that. Craig has kindly offered to help and he knows more about websites than me for a start
After that, any new 'format', 'template', 'layout' would need to be thoroughly tested before it could go live. But that's not for now....
We definitely cannot afford to lose the info in the forum that's our history, whatever we do!
Lindsey and Craig and you OK to discuss this via pms or email? That might make it easier.

Re: Website downtime
The site has now been moved. However some more downtime will occur over the next week as I update the forum.
