Alarm going off

Post by Dorset Dave »

Sorry folks, I have replaced switches, repaired wiring and the alarm sets but goes off for no reason. It's a 94 cabriolet with the Factory alarm system. I want to stop the horn from sounding. I think it's the car horn not a separate siren. What's the easiest way to turn off the horn? Presumably I need to disconnect a wire. All help gratefully received.

Is your hood up or down when alarm goes off? Asking because I do not know if you do or do not have volumetric sensor in your car, so maybe sensor is activating alarm when something passes it.

I had the same problem with my '94 Cabriolet. It seemed worse when there was water in the air (mist and rain). For quite a while, rather than locking the car with the key and setting the alarm, I would hold the outside door handle open (up) whilst pressing the lock button on the drivers door. This has the effect of locking the car but not setting the alarm. You then release the outside door handle and close the door. The unlock button on the fob will then unlock the doors when you return. Eventually the problem just went away (possibly due to a replacement Cabriolet hood and a reduction of moisture inside the car).
