Rover 200 & 400 Owners Club - Miles per tank of fuel? - Page 3

Hi, if it helps I regularly get 400 miles per tank from my 1994 214 Rover cabriolet with a mix of careful driving with over half on A road or motorway.
The tank holds 55 litres 12 gallons and I run it from full to red using the fuel gauge.
The handbook says it should do 31.9 mpg urban / 51.4 at 56mph / 38.5 at 75 mph which seems about right. The 216 is 12% more thirsty.
The car is excellent except I am now concerned about the gearbox - see my post in the 200 technical section.

And how much is left in the tank when it gets to the red?

Hi, I donyt know how much is left but the needle is in the red. With a car of this age I'm not willing to run it down to zero. Im content with the 400 miles. Hope this helps. Simon

And that's why doing a fuel consumption check using the gauge is a waste of time.

The ONLY way to get a sensible answer is to brim the tank, drive it and then at the next fill-up note how much is required to fill to the brim. Any other method introduces too many variables.

Maybe im wrong but that's what I am doing. I fill the car to the maximum drive it until the gague says empty then I refill it. Each time it shows Ive done 400 or so miles (+/- 20 miles) and costs 45 pounds. I dont need much more data than that , all I need is the price of petrol to fall like oil prices!
