I can't : the thread is too short. The very upper part of the suspension thread is just level with the low part of the strut hole.
The strut brace needs to be slightly bent upwards to fit nicely without any obstruction.

I've ordered the German Wiechers front brace strut (see pic above). I'll tell you.

Result!
Just that slightly bent shape that Dark Ice unfortunately doesn't offer. It's a mistake of them because Wieschers fits far better so.

To be fair to Dark Ice they only really have stuff for post 2000 ROVER's and don't specifically sell for the R8 but have parts that can be adapted to fit to cover themselves.

I agree but it's a shame they don't take in charge all R8 models (mainly coupés & cabriolets) from 1989.
However I was told by several mates on mg-rover.org and by a Dark Ice seller himself as well that 400/45 rear brace struts will fit nicely at the back of a R8.
At the moment I'm indecisive whether I'll try to fit a rear one or not. I'd better to test the front one before and see the improvement if any.

I recently fitted a Dark Ice / DGMRS rear strutbrace to my HHR 400. Massive improvement to the handling. I had suffered what I thought was body roll despite using uprated springs and bought the strutbrace which immediately gave a firmer flatter ride.
I believe the chassis had been twisting before but not any more.Although that is not the only handling modification, I can now accelerate throughout bends without leaning against the curve of the bend and the steering turn in is much sharper too.
This is how they should have beem originally made.
